Is this rude

Here's the scenario. You're working out on an elliptical machine. You are getting your sweat on and all of the sudden someone approaches the person working out on the elliptical next to you. This person isn't working out, they are just hanging out and talking. Sure it's OK to do for 5 minutes or so, but for the next 20 minutes they talk loudly next to you. They could have stood in front of the person they were talking to or to the other side, but nooooooo they stand right next to you. I mean so close they can smell your body odor. You turn up the sound on your headphones but they are talking so loud it doesn't help. The question is what do you do?

A. Ignore it because it's not that big of a deal.
B. Ask them nicely to stop talking.
C. Give them dirty looks.
D. Fall off your machine on purpose making sure you take out the talking person on your way down.
E. Blog about their rudeness so the whole wide world can read about what happened to you at the gym.

  1. F. Take off your head phones and engage in their conversation, the more personal the better. Share things that are awkward, I mean as awkward as you can come up with.

  2. I remember having that happen at the "Y" and I used to butt into their conversation and add my two cents. It would annoy both the talker and the person working out that they would both leave...it was great! Sharing such things as what to do about that rash that wont go away might do the trick.

  3. I would probably look for another machine or blog about it, hoping other insensitive jerks might get the message.
