Is it just me

Is it just me or are more and more stores putting employees in costumes. The month of April provides the Statue of Liberty waving to get people to do their taxes with Liberty Tax. I was driving home from work the other day and I saw a person dressed as a giant cup of coffee for Dunkin' Donuts. That one was new to me. The kicker is at the next light was a man dressed as a large mattress in front of a mattress store. The mattress guy looked like he wanted to kill me as I drove by. For the record I waited to giggle at him until after I passed.

All of these costumed employees have three things in common. They are working for a living, they wear headphones to listen to music, and they hate their job. I know not every costumed employee hates their job, but the ones on Rt. 17 (where I live) sure act like it. Either that or they just hate me.

So here's my question if you had to dress up in a costume to promote your job would you do it with a good attitude?

  2. I too have seen the mattress guy. What a ridiculous and demeaning thing to make an employee do. Most of the folks I see with signs are doing their best to hide their identity. They need the money obviously, but they are humiliated. I just would have such a hard time doing something like this.

  3. the only thing i can think is that these folks get paid cash daily? it's not like next week you'll see the mattress guy actually trying to sell you a mattress? that being said, well, i don't know. i was just sayin.

on james's (my 4 yr old) birthday, we were driving down 17 and i was trying to figure out what he wanted as a treat for his birthday. he said "a mattress, cause that one is DANCING!" hahaha.

  4. All I can say is that if I had to be in a costume I would more than likely have a bad attitude as well! You KNOW it has to be hot inside of it!!

I think my favorite costume here in Jacksonville NC is the Gyro from Jesse's Hotdogs!!

  5. I guess it depends on the person. I've seen the Liberty tax people out dancing and stuff. To me, that means they're making the best of what they're doing, or maybe they're just really into whatever song they're listening to. As for me, since I work for a plumbing supply company, I guess that means I'd have to dress up as a toilet. I'd probably try to make the best of it, but it would be tough to be excited about that. I would try to find some way to hide my face, maybe behind the lid or something.

  7. If they paid me enough. And it would have to be A LOT. Or for a cause I really believed in (along with a lot of money) :)

  8. Lindsey, that's really funny. I guess that's one reason why I don't get companies that do that. The only people that I know that would buy something because of it are kids...and they have no purchase power.

  9. Jessica, thanks for stopping by the blog and leaving a comment. I've never been to Jesse's Hotdogs, but that is one costumed character that may cause me to purchase it's product.

  10. Dave B, that comment made me laugh. That was funny. What if they made you be a plunger?

Elyse, I could see you doing that for a living. Just joking. I think it'd be hard to do no matter what job you have.

Faith, I could see the YMCA getting a dumbell costume. It could be a great way to get people to go to the gym.

  11. I don't think I would enjoy the costumed jobs! I would be WAY too hot in any costume! BUT, I do know that some people enjoy their costumed jobs. My niece is the Baby Cow at the Chickfila in the mall. She LOVES doing it. She says it is fun to be able to act silly and have fun with the kids because NOBODY will judge her. She can hide behind the face of that cute little cow selling chicken and be totally comfortable in her hooves and fur! But maybe the fact that she is only 15 helps, haha!
